A dark, compelling look at a Batman at the end of his career (and the end of his rope). Th striking imagery and sharp text bring you the story of a world, and a Batman, that has to quote Stephen King "moved on." This is one of the best examples of graphic storytelling you will ever read. Not simply a "comic book," but a thoughtful story about heroes and the way we perceive them.

If you are just getting into Batman then read this book. Some of the older readers have a good idea about Batmans personality and the way he works, but if you dont know then this is the book to read. This story is done perfectly. I recommend this story to all Batman readers old or young.

I'm an old rocker and recently bought The Guess Who's "Running Back Through Canada" DVD which has transformed me from a casual Randy Bachman fan to a very avid one. Have always had Bachman Turner Overdrive's music in my regular rotation on my iPod, but now include a lot of The Guess Who's music as well. Bachman and Cummings have both certainly earned a place in rock and roll history and their music will live on long after my generation has passed on. When I saw a pre-release ad for Randy Bachman's "Vinyl Tap Stories" I ordered it immediately and am glad I did. If you're looking for a full blown autobiography, this isn't it. Yes, you get a brief outline and progression of Bachman's career from youth to today. However, this book is more a story of Randy's love for guitars, music, the people he has come in contact with over the years, and the influence they had not only on him, but the music world in general. I have always found it sad that Randy's talents are only know for Smashy and Nicey in the UK and thats how he seems to be remembered here. The book details is early life and also his ups and downs with the Guess Who and Burton in particular. The emergence of BTO from a small band to a world wide sensation and how Randy and Robin, his brother seem destined to be on opposite sides of that band. Also it details how Randy became the musician he is today and, in his own words, how much Lenny Breu and Chet Atkins inspired him. Of the famous people he has met he writes about them as a fan would on meeting their heros. He comes across as an honest man who admits his mistakes with his first marriage and how it took a while to build a relationship with his children. i recommend this.

I happened upon Randy Bachman's Vinyl Tap program on CBC quite by accident and was quickly hooked. Although there are other artists out there with radio programs and music, Vinyl Tap is refreshing in its themes, music choices, personal stories and intelligence. The guitar themed shows and his tribute to the cowbell stand out as "must listen" programs.

This book is not great literature, but it is personal, does tell some great stories and give some insight to the musical scene of the time, from a distinctly Canadian perspective. Many thanks Randy, "Rock On!"

I enjoyed the book, but it was very repetitive and a little simplistic. Lots nifty ideas with a few interesting metaphors and insights... The book doesn't provide many revelations (if any). It mostly serves to re-enforce what we already know is right and true. We've all heard a million versions of the ideas delivered in this book. Stuff like:

"Say what you mean. Mean what you say"
"Assuming makes an ASS out of U and ME"

You get the idea... Read this book as a reminder. Read it to gain an alternate perspective. I would recommend it to anyone who is on a path to self-discovery. Remedial or not, the toltec perspective referenced in this book is a valuable one...

One thing I've noticed about most of the negative reviews. They all seem a little bit angry. Perhaps too angry to be receptive to a book with such a positive spin...

Where to begin? I was recommended this book by a friend. She is very sweet, but I know she has some rather curious ideas about a lot of things, and upon hearing the cheesy title of the book she talked so warmly about it was with great reluctance I made a mumbling promise to at least give it a try.

I was expecting 150 pages of simplistic New Age mumbo-jumbo, and simplistic New Age-mumbo jumbo is what I got. Chock-full of false dichotomies, logical contradictions and non sequiturs, this book of "ancient wisdom" provides recipes for anything from A Good Life ™ to World Peace ™. All you need to do is to follow the four principles of Miguel the Great and everything will somehow magically work out.

Whereas most of what Ruiz says is just silly, some of it really makes my blood boil. I particularly take offence at principle number two ("don't take anything personally"), which, if you read between the lines, in essence preaches extreme arrogance, turning a deaf ear towards all... Read more
